Adobe After Effects
Learn the basics of Adobe After Effects from composition to animation using keyframes and the software’s camera functions. Build a 10-second animated loop using still images and video.

Adobe Illustrator
Learn the program used by many professional graphic designers to create simple to complex illustrations. Using the pencil, pen and brush tools, students will learn to create and manipulate shapes and color in vector format. Common program shortcuts will also be taught.

Advanced AOC Production Accessories
Become more familiar with AOC specialty accessories, including boom mics and travel boards, GoPro and Sony Action Cameras, wireless mic kits and field audio recorders.

Advanced Editing
Learn advanced editing techniques using Apple's Final Cut Pro X Software. We strongly recommend you take our Basic Editing workshop before attending this class.

This class is not for certification.

Advanced Field Production
This workshop covers advanced field production techniques and equipment. We'll teach you how to use our best gear and how to adequately plan for a safe field shoot. This workshop certifies members to use AOC's Red Kit, Blue Kit, Arri Light Kit, Field Audio Kit, and Wireless Mic Kit.

Advanced Studio Production
Learn to use a full television studio including cameras, intercom systems, a green screen set, an eight-channel audio board and an advanced control room. We'll also teach you techniques for communicating as a crew and how to live stream your show on AOC's website.

This workshop certifies members to use AOC's largest studio, the Multi-Purpose Room.

Animation Basics
This workshop is a basic primer on animation. Participants will learn about several animation forms and have an opportunity for hands-on learning using AOC's Post Lab computers and our new Animation Booth.

This workshop certifies members to use AOC's Animation Booth.

Summer Animation Camp 2014 Session 1
This four-day camp (July 21-24) will teach kids ages 12 to 17 the fundamentals of animation. They will gain knowledge on techniques used by today's animation industry artists. They will dive deep into the rotoscope animation style by creating imagery overtop of an original music videos frames.

The final result will be a collaborative animation achieved using similar tactics as a professional team of animators would. At the end of the week, students screen their finished project and take home a copy of their work to show family and friends.

Audio Production
In this workshop you will learn the basics of recording audio using simple studio tools and a computer-recording interface. We discuss two types of recording software, microphones, headphones and mixing.

This class certifies members to use AOC's Audio Booth.

Backpack Media Production
Learn how to write, produce, edit and share your media creations using one of AOC's new Backpack Kits. These iPad-based kits are an entire production house you can carry around in a backpack. Use it to create films, animations, podcasts, and more.

This workshop certifies members to use AOC's Backpack Kit.

Basic Editing
This is a beginners' workshop that introduces users to the editing program most used at AOC. Students will learn the main functions of Final Cut Pro X including trimming clips, adding text and audio, and exporting and submitting content for air.

This workshop certifies members to use AOC's Computer Lab Editing computers.

Basics of Apple Motion
Apple's Motion software brings your FCPX editing projects to the next level with advanced composition tools. Learn the basics of animating text and objects in Motion and using them in your projects.

Camera Basics
Students will learn basic types of cinematography and also the main functions of AOC's portable cameras and additional production equipment they can use to produce content outside of AOC’s television studios.

$35 for AOC members; $50 for non-members.

Crew Communication
Communication between crew members is essential to a good production. In this session, we'll discuss the crucial steps of clarifying your message, developing a shorthand language with your crew, and using that language to work as a group to deliver your message to the audience effectively.

Teens Only: Drawn Cel Animation
In this workshop, students will learn about stop motion animation which incorporates small objects to create a story using a frame-by-frame capture method. You will also learn how to create your own animation stand. Students will leave with a completed animation and an animation stand to use on future projects.

Ages 12-17 only

$40 for members and non-members $100 total for all three animation workshops

Editing Basics

Teens Only: Flip Book Animation
This class will show how many cartoon companies in the industry create animation. This style uses drawing and onion skinning to create a smoothly animated product. Having a character idea ready is a plus, but not required. Animators will leave with a basic understanding of how much is involved with this method of animation.

Ages 12-17 only

$40 for members and non-members or $100 total for all three animation workshops

Giving Thanks with Graphics
Creating graphics to identify on-screen talent or emphasize an idea is a subtle but essential part of a high-quality production. Learn simple best practices for creating graphics, as well as updated these graphics from show to show.

GoPro Basics
This mini-workshop will introduce you to the widely popular GoPro camera, a micro HD camera that can be reserved at AOC. Learn how to capture unique footage for your existing program or for a new project.

$15 for AOC members; $30 for non-members.

Green-Screen Effects
We'll walk you through the art of faking it with one of the most commonly used effects in film and television, chroma key. From virtual sets to motion capture, the ability to “key out” video comes in handy.

Holiday Pi
The Raspberry Pi is an inexpensive and small computer. Its creators have designed it to be user programmable and super versatile. In this introductory session, we'll tell you about some of the things that are possible using a Pi and even help you to set up your own* Pi to turn your TV into a digital picture frame to wow your holiday guests. *A Raspberry Pi comes with the purchase of this workshop.

Intermediate Editing in Final Cut Pro X
This is follow-up workshop to Editing in Final Cut Pro X for Beginners that introduces users to the editing program most used at AOC. Students will learn the main functions of Final Cut Pro X including green-screen editing and multi-camera editing.

Internet Radio Production
Learn how to create your own radio show for our Internet radio station, Cypress Street Radio. Whether you are interested in talking about sports, politics, music or anything in between, you can learn the basic technical skills and production concepts to create your live or recorded show.

$35 for AOC members; $50 for non-members.

Registration is now open for AOC Community Media’s after-school creative program called Muse. Each Monday, anyone ages 12-18 can participate in a wide variety of creative media-based activities led by AOC staff and visiting instructors.

Muse sessions begin at 4:30 and end around 6 p.m. at AOC. All sessions are free for students; although because sessions are first come, first served, pre-registration is encouraged for as many sessions as desired. AOC membership is not required.

MUSE: Inkscape/Illustrator
This segment will walk students through creating graphics using these two programs.

MUSE: Acing Public Speaking
Pick up public speaking tricks and walk away with helpful tools to turn from a nervous novice into the Ron Burgundy of public speaking.

MUSE: Adobe After Effects
Create a ten-second animated loop of your name within After Effects to later use in any video you wish.

MUSE: Audio for Television
Learn to properly mic talent for television, how to identify vocal frequency and use the audio board to create a uniform audio experience.

MUSE: Basic Editing with FCPX
Learn how to use Final Cut Pro X to edit future latest project. Topics included are data management, trimming clips, adding text and audio, and exporting files.

MUSE: Basics of Apple Motion
Learn how to keyframe and animate objects in 2D and 3D for your next animation project.

Muse: Claymation
A tried and true animation technique using clay sculpture and stop motion photography.

MUSE: Creating a Demo Reel
Learn what goes into creating a video demo reel that translates to success whether applying for college, an internship or a job!

Muse: Creating a Short News Package Session 1
This three-part Muse session is a comprehensive training course in television package production. Participants will develop and produce an "air-worthy" story by the end of the third session.

MUSE: Creative Selfies
Kim Kardashian does it. James Franco tried to, and even President Barack Obama takes them. Show off existing selfie skills and pick up new and creative ways to take snapshots for social media. Bring camera phone or camera if available.

MUSE: Cutout Animation
Learn how to create a short cutout animation using the iOS app, Stop Motion Studio, a free app.

Teens only ages 12-18. Free.

MUSE: Drawing on a Computer
Learn to create traditional hand-drawn animation in a free computer program called Pencil Animation.

The camera does not make the picture great, the photographer makes the picture great. Learn how to be a great photographer with any camera. Bring camera phone or camera if available.

Muse: Interview Techniques
The ability to prepare for and conduct interviews is essential to journalists, researchers, writers and employers. We'll talk about the importance of research and methods to encourage your subjects to share insightful information.

Muse: Make a Monster Movie
In this full-day Muse session, students will produce their own short horror film. Participants use professional lighting, makeup and camera techniques to create a suspenseful and scary monster movie.

MUSE: Movie Monster Makeup
Learn the art of using shading and latex to look ghoulish and deadly for video and television production.

Muse: News Now!
Using short news packages produced in last month's three-part Muse session, participants will work together to create a TV news show.

Muse: News Podcast
Participants will produce a short news podcast based on current events in their own lives.

MUSE: Podcast Production
Learn to identify talent for podcasts, as well as assets management and show scripting.

Teens only ages 12-18. Free.

MUSE: Re-creating Radio
Produce an old-time radio drama using scripts, sound effects and music. Discover the stages of radio production including casting, microphone and sound effects training, and a cue rehearsal, and then put on a "live" broadcast.

MUSE: Screenwriting for Short Films
Discover how to write a creative script for a five-minute short film and then how to properly format a screenplay.

MUSE: Shadowplay Animation
Make a jointed-paper shadow puppet, build background elements and work in groups to write a scene for characters to perform in. Bring characters to life on a lightbox while learning traditional silhouette animation techniques.

Learn to stream your local game content on the Steam Network and Twitch TV.

MUSE: Tabletop Green-screen Storytelling
Learn a form of filmmaking in which small-staged sets and objects are filmed and manipulated in front of a green screen that can make them appear in any imaginable background. Use puppets and pre-made text bubbles to create short films.

MUSE: Teens - Powerful, not Powerless
Teens are the important and influential television viewers right now, but they are also the most often deceived. Learn to recognize the industry’s most used forms of deception and show just how powerful teens really are.

Muse: Video Alphabet Scavenger Hunt
Participants will learn and practice shot composition as well as basic camera operation with this fun alphabet themed video scavenger hunt held in the AOC studio.

MUSE: Video Art Fun
Capture the feeling and meaning of a subject using video shot with AOC’s beginner video cameras.

Muse: Video Greeting Card
In this session participants will use cameras, editing and graphics software to create fun video "greeting cards" to send to family and friends.

MUSE: Video Scavenger Hunt
Using AOC’s video cameras, the mission of this session is to find, then creatively film assigned objects and piece them together as creatively as possible.

MUSE: Vine Competition
Six seconds is all you've got to wow the judges in AOC's Muse Vine competition! Create the best looping video with a randomly assigned subject to take home the prize.

Muse: Youth Citizen Journalism
Students will learn how to use community media to report from your own schools and neighborhoods.

Neighbors & Notions 2015
This is not your typical social. Rather, this is Lafayette’s largest creative social! We want to connect you to other people in Lafayette, but we also want to inspire you to create. Create art, awareness, fun, passion, laughter, peace - but mostly to create possibilities.

Orientation
At this orientation, discover the benefits of joining AOC, all that can be done at AOC, as well as how to successfully reserve use of AOC’s resources. A brief rundown of the studios, editing lab and portable equipment available is included in the orientation. This free workshop is a pre-requisite to reserving any of AOC’s portable equipment or facilities.

Photoshop for Beginners
Digital photo editing can make a good photograph even better. Learn how to color correct, light a photo and add effects. The video editing capability of the program will also be touched upon in the workshop.

Planning is Everything: Pre-Production
This workshop steps students through the process of planning and preparing for their studio or field productions. Learn how to create storyboards, shot lists, and pre-production check lists, as well as how to effectively plan and organize your shooting days! Upon completion, students will be ready to plan their own video productions.

Podcast Production
In this workshop we teach you how to produce an audio podcast from start to finish. First you'll learn how to use audio recording software and equipment to produce an mp3 file, and then we'll show you how to post that file online and publish to your favorite podcast service.

This workshop certifies members to use AOC's Radio Station/Podcast Studio.

Podcasting Basics
This workshop will teach participants what podcasting is as well as how to create and share their own podcast.

Pre-Production and Location Scouting
Learn how to scout a location for your film or TV Show, as well as how to gain permission to shoot on location and plan your shoot.

Simple Field Production
Learn how to record video and audio in the field. In this class we cover basic camera and audio recording operation and beginner techniques.

This workshop certifies members to use the following AOC gear: Green Kit, Yellow Kit, GoPro and Zoom H4N recorder.

Simple Special Effects
Motion picture photography has always been about "tricking" your audience. In this session, we'll talk about and practice some tried and true but easy special effects you can create using only cameras and editing software.

Simple Studio Production
Learn the basic elements of studio production in AOC's most basic studio including managing audio, live switching, creating graphics and more.

This workshop certifies members to use AOC's TV Studio.

Spooky Sound Effects
We'll talk about sound editing for video in general and especially about the sound effects you can use to scare or gross out your audience.

AOC Community Media will hold a five-day animation camp designed to introduce techniques used by today’s animation industry artists on July 25-29 from 9 a.m. to noon. Students ages 9-17 can register for this camp for $125 per student. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

Camp participants will learn about several different styles of animation and then create short videos using these styles. At the end of the camp, students will screen their finished projects and take home a copy of their work to show others.

AOC will hold a four-day video production summer camp aimed at getting students to tell their own life stories in documentary style on July 20-23 from 9 a.m. to noon. Students ages 12-17 can register for this camp for $100 per student.

At the camp called Beyond the Selfie, students will use digital media to plan and create video autobiographies based on personal photographs.

The final result will be a short film created using proven cinematography techniques and based on documentary film-making theory. At the end of the camp, students will screen their finished projects and take home a copy of their work to show others or upload to social media websites.

Tacky Sweater Expression - Here at AOC we mostly focus on representing yourself through digital media but self expression can take many forms. Why not come and express your self by creating your own tacky holiday sweater? Just bring your own blank sweatshirt or boring sweater.

What is underwriting? How can it help your show? How does it help AOC? How do I get it? These questions and more answered at this free Tidbits session.

Individual Tutoring Session - One hour
In addition to group workshops, individual tutoring sessions are available to both members and non-members in the areas of lighting, cameras, animation, audio, editing and directing. Individual Tutoring Session - Two Hours

TV Production for Large Crews
This workshop teaches participants how to use AOC's largest television studios to produce a live or recorded television show. Camera operation, directing, set-design, audio and lighting basics are discussed.

TV Production for Small Crews
Learn to produce a television show with a minimal crew using AOC's TV Studio. Using green Screen and graphics, you can make your show look like it was made in a large studio with a full crew.

Viddy Awards 2015
AOC producers, volunteers, and members will be honored at this year's Viddy Award ceremony on Thursday, June 18, at the Petroleum Club. Doors will open at 6:30, and the program will start at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25 per seat; dinner is included. Tickets must be purchased before Friday, June 12, to enter the awards. Purchase tickets online or in person at AOC.

In addition to group workshops, individual tutoring sessions are available to both members and non-members in the areas of lighting, cameras, animation, audio, editing and directing. Limited Business Hours during Festival International -  4/20/2017
AOC Community Media will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, and be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, and Friday, April 28, because of its coverage of Festival International. The office will re-open on Monday, May 1, at 1 p.m.

For those unable to attend the “Robideaux Report: The Mayor-President's Annual Address," AOC Community Media will live stream the program on Thursday, March 30, from 6-7 p.m., on its website aocinc.org.
