AOC Community Media will hold a free Media Literacy Launch Lunch for Lafayette Parish teachers and administrators on Tuesday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to noon at AOC, 101 Jefferson St.
Starting this fall, AOC will offer free media literacy sessions in elementary, middle and high schools to interested teachers. The launch lunch will serve as a kickoff to the new program and as an opportunity for teachers to begin booking their free sessions.
Media literacy provides students a guide to access, analyze, evaluate, create and participate with the media messages in all forms. Media literacy helps students understand how media messages shape their culture and society and helps to develop critical thinking skills. AOC’s program is mapped to national and Common Core state standards.
“Media literacy education is a critical part of education in 2017,” said Ed Bowe, AOC executive director. “We want to share with our local teachers why they should incorporate media literacy into their curriculum and how quick and easy it is to do so with our help.”
A free lunch will be provided to teachers who attend. Children are welcome to attend. AOC will also give away gift cards at the event.
To attend this event, RSVP by Monday, July 24, by emailing email@example.com with your name and school. For more information, contact Christy Tracie, AOC education coordinator, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
