AOC Community Media encourages art lovers and downtown goers to ARTiculate and use their words at upcoming Downtown Lafayette Artwalks on Saturday, Oct. 8, and Nov. 12. Based on refrigerator poetry magnets, participants will create poetry using large-scale magnets to become co-authors, editors and observers in participatory art.

To add to the physical interaction in the creative process, AOC will also have a limited number of its Backpack Media Production Kits available for use at Artwalk to create mini-documentaries.

“ARTiculate will allow those attending Artwalk to be active producers of something creative and unique,” said Ed Bowie, AOC executive director. “Think visual spoken word plus video creation centered around Lafayette’s art. This will be a fun mashup for one of downtown’s most attended events.”

During Artwalk, AOC will be stationed between the Lafayette Science Museum and the former Teche’s Drugs Gift and Kid’s Shoppe. Participants need to register in advance to receive a Backpack Media Kit, an assignment and tips before setting out to record aspects of Artwalk including the galleries, the art, the attendees and the artists.

The kits are a one-stop package for shooting and editing footage on a production-equipped iPad. The kits also include a tripod and professional audio equipment in a backpack. Use of these kits is also free for AOC members.

Memberships range from $25 a year for students, senior citizens and veterans to $35 for individuals. Group memberships are also available for starting at $100 for four members ($25 per member after four people).
