United Way of Acadiana launched Bank On Acadiana in partnership with local area banks and credit unions. The program is aimed at helping residents of Acadiana achieve and maintain financial stability.

Through the Bank On Acadiana program, residents will have access to support including affordable low-to-no cost checking accounts regardless of their checking history, resources to credit counseling, pathways to homeownership, and money management skill training.

United Way of Acadiana is committed to the vision of a prosperous community where all individuals and families can achieve their full potential. The Bank On Acadiana initiative is a local, collaborative program aimed to raise public awareness, target outreach to the unbanked, and expand access to financial education.

“Financial security for our community is now more important than ever. Many of our residents are facing financial insecurities, some for the first time, due to job losses, illnesses, and the general impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.” Said Carlee Alm-LaBar, President/CEO United Way of Acadiana. “We are excited to launch this program in our community. It will offer a hand up that many of our residents need now to take their next step towards financial stability.”

Bank On Acadiana is based on successful Bank On programs throughout the country, including several in the state of Louisiana. United Way of Acadiana partnered with several local financial institutions to launch the program and will be looking to partners with additional institutions as the program takes root. Early participants include B1 Bank, IBERIABANK (a division of First Horizon), Hancock Whitney, Home Bank, Meritus Credit Union, and Pelican Credit Union.
