Foster the Love Louisiana Teams Up with Local Businesses to Create First Night Bags for Foster Children

Foster the Love Louisiana is now accepting donations for First

Night Bags for foster children across Acadiana. First Night bags include everything a

foster child and foster family might need for their first night in a new place.

Often foster families are left scrambling to get basic items like, toothbrushes, formula,

diapers, and more so they can make it through their first few hours.

“It’s already a scary situation for the child, we want to make sure the foster families can

focus on the immediate and emotional needs, not have to run out to the store in the

middle of the night,” explains Heather Duhon, co-founder of Foster the Love Louisiana.

“Just providing a few items in the First Night Bags can make a huge difference.”

Foster the Love Louisiana has teamed up with The Loft, Hue Salon, Chop Leauxcal,

Blush Salon, CycleBar, and Pretty Is Boudoir Studio to collect donations. You can

drop off items for First Night Bags at their locations.

Here’s a list of some item suggestions for donations:

Infant Formula

Diapers, all sizes

Baby Wipes

Pajamas ranging from infant to teens

Blankets

Toothbrush/toothpaste

Books for all ages

Socks

Hairbrush

Hair ties

Coloring book with crayons OR travel-size game/cards OR art activity

Toiletries including body wash, shampoo, deodorant, lotion and/or body spray

You can also find a list on items being collected on the website.

The Space Yoga is also teaming up with the charity. Throughout the month of

December, they will be hosting community classes on Saturday mornings at 8:00.

Those participating will make a minimum $5 donation and all funds collected will go to

Foster the Love Louisiana. 

Foster the Love Louisiana is based in Lafayette, LA. We were created to be a support

and resource center for the local foster community. Our mission is to care for the
